RGIII: Accuracy Watch

After RGIII was drafted back in March we praised his many amazing attributes, including his passing accuracy which we twice labeled "insane."  His completion percentage and TD-to-INT ratio were among the very best ever in college football.  How has this attribute transferred to the NFL?  In short, very well.

RGIII currently ranks 6th of 34 quarterbacks in completion percentage, at 67.1%.  He is just behind QBs like Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers, and just ahead of QBs like Tom Brady, Matt Schaub, and Ben Roethlisberger.  (If the Skins had not dropped a season-leading 10 passes in a single game against the Steelers, RGIII would rank #1 in completion percentage.)

RGIII's impressive accuracy also shows up in other ways.  Among QBs who have played at least 9 games, RGIII ties with Tom Brady for fewest INTs, with just 3.

Perhaps the best measure of passing efficiency is Adjusted Yards Per Attempt (AYPA), which takes into account he number of yards per passing attempt adjusted for sacks and interceptions.  RGIII's AYPA of 6.3 places him in 3rd just behind Tom Brady and Peyton Manning and just ahead of Matt Schaub and Drew Brees.

RGIII is already one of the most accurate and efficient QBs in the league, and he will only get better.

  1. ... if he can survive.

Twas shocking to see the Skins beat a bad team yesterday. Can't remember the last time they did that. Let's see if they can do it again on Turkey Day!

  2. Yes, if he can survive as a mobile QB in the NFL .. which is unfortunately quite difficult.
